Teaching Philosophy

I am a passionate teacher and feel that it is the educator’s job not only teach the subject at hand, but to excite students in the process of learning – to want to know not only what, but how and why.

This means taking the time to explain to students why they are doing something, and giving them the opportunity to think of new ideas and approaches, and to explore their own misunderstandings (“Why don’t I understand how to do this? Where is my knowledge gap?”). I have found that by being able to identify their knowledge gaps gives student’s a sense of responsibility and control around their own learning, and more importantly, a joy in the learning process.

Seeing students understand the process of learning, working out what their “knowledge gap” is and how to address it, finding that “ah-ha” moment, is the most rewarding experience as an educator.
